Elaine skated off into the sunset sometime overnight. To say that I feel pretty lousy right now would be an understatement. She was a cool frog as far as frogs go. I have no idea what happened. She was just sitting on the edge of her water dish in the morning like she always does but something didn’t look right. A little nudge and nothing….

Elaine, you will be missed.

This post is not a shameless plug for you to vote for my site, but to go see some sites that are pretty incredible. There is a lot of good photography out there and you can go Here to see nominated sites and vote for a few of them! You can nominate a worthy site too if you don’t see it there.

Enjoy the look!

Where’s My Bailout?

without comments

Good Lord! I usually come home from work and check out the news on my iGoogle page. I know, a lot of doom and gloom most of the time but I sort of like knowing what’s going on in the world. I have always been like that and don’t see it changing at this stage!

Today must be Pirate Day.

There are quite a few articles today dealing with Somali pirates and the Big 3 Auto CEO’s on capital hill looking for a handout. Similar goals, but the techniques used to achieve these goals, are all that separate them. The articles I have read are almost surreal. All 3 of these guys arrive in DC on their private jets and then show up on the hill looking for a handout. If they don’t get the money now they are going to go under and the whole country will implode. Maybe I’m thinking outside the box here but maybe, just maybe, if, say 10 years ago, they made a serious attempt at manufacturing a good product they wouldn’t be in all this trouble?

The whole circus on capital hill seems very similar to when someone wins a big lottery and all the long lost relatives come out of the woodwork looking for a handout. It doesn’t look like there are enough votes in the house though to give them anything though. Now they will just have to slink back to their private jets and have a nice steak dinner on their way back to Detroit.

C’mon….what was Chrysler thinking anyway? Who would buy a car from Bob Nardelli?

How does this affect me? Well, if they end up getting one penny I am going to request my bailout too. It’s not like I’m a big auto manufacturer. I don’t have a lot to manage and unlike them, what little I do have, I manage fine. But I am in need of a capital infusion. I’m a stringer for a local newspaper and I could use some faster glass for the indoor sports. I’m amazed my sports photos turn out as good as they do with what I’m using. Maybe even a couple of new bodies and some more speedlights too! Don’t even get me started on studio equipment and software. If I am going to be competitive around here I need more money to reinvest in my business!

Sounds pretty rediculous doesn’t it? No more than those 3 guys looking for a handout.

Veterans Day

without comments

Happy Veterans Day! Don’t forget to thank a vet you know.

Many forums around the web feature a lot of grumbling about this day and how evil the United States is. Most of those statements are illogical and emotional though. This is a day to honor our servicemen past and present. Period. This is not a day to debate policy or politics. Our men and women in uniform are the ones we are honoring, not the politicians.

So, on that note …. Happy Veterans Day all you vets out there! Semper Fi

The Internet & Political Campaigns

without comments

Sunday mornings here are usually spent drinking coffee and catching up on news feeds that show up on my trusty Google Reader and my iGoogle homepage. I depend on my feeds to get a glimpse of what is going on in the world. I have many sources to ensure that I’m not getting just parts of the story. You know, the whole liberal media thing! The only thing I watch on TV anymore dealing with current events is The Daily Show & The Colbert Report so my feeds and homepage sources are important to me.

This morning, one article in particular caught my eye. It was this article written by Leslie Sanchez dealing with the effect of the internet on this years presidential election. The numbers she referred to were pretty impressive.

It would appear that Mr. Obama kicked some major tail when it came to social networking. His campaign used the internet to their advantage and it paid off. From another source, the following quote:

“John Mccain is aware of the Internet” - McCain campaign Internet strategist Mark Soohoo.

That is an amazing statement when you think about it. This is a quote from June 25th of 2008. I could understand it if he had said this in, say, 1998, but not 2008! I would have hoped for a better answer than that.

McCain and Obama had people to get their candidates message out on the internet. Obama’s team seems to have taken advantage of what the internet has to offer and took things to the next level. Mr. Soohoo, on the other hand, probably still gets excited when he sees a message in his inbox stating that he won $25,000,000.00 in the Internet Lottery…..
