The 2008 Holiday Market
Well, the holidays must be near because Santa has stopped in Tinley Park. He stopped in last Sunday and must have liked the reception he got because he is back again! It might have something to do with all the lights in Zabrocki Plaza. I’m sure he spotted it as he flew over. Hard to miss!
The Holiday Market is organized by the Oak Park Avenue Mainstreet Association and they do a great job at making sure everything runs smoothly. They have put together an entire weekend of events ranging from carriage rides to a craft show in a very large heated tent. There is food, entertainment, crafts, and even a chance to get your picture taken with the man himself.
I have been taking photos there for a local newspaper and have been having a great time. To say there have been a lot of photo ops would be an understatement! It’s a good thing that most of the event is going on inside though. It has been a pretty cold weekend. As I type this, it is 7f out! I feel for the carriage ride drivers, they are pretty much stuck outside. The same with Mark and Julie. They brought a couple of reindeer to show the kids and looked pretty chilled as they were packing up for the day. The horses and reindeer seemed ok with it though! With this kind of weather, fur is good!
All in all, it was a fun 2 1/2 days! The kids seemed to be having a great time and there sure was a lot going on all the time.
Let the Holidays begin!
Veterans Day
Happy Veterans Day! Don’t forget to thank a vet you know.
Many forums around the web feature a lot of grumbling about this day and how evil the United States is. Most of those statements are illogical and emotional though. This is a day to honor our servicemen past and present. Period. This is not a day to debate policy or politics. Our men and women in uniform are the ones we are honoring, not the politicians.
So, on that note …. Happy Veterans Day all you vets out there! Semper Fi
Playing Catch up Here!
It has been awhile since I had the motivation to write anything. I always have a lot of ideas floating around but never seem to be able to put the words together. Well, here goes!
Since the last time I posted anything here: Read the rest of this entry »
Scenes From a Rainy Weekend
I guess saying this was a wet weekend would be an understatement. It poured all weekend here. No real storms or anything like that. It just rained…and rained…and rained. I have hear we had totals of 9 inches or so from Friday to Sunday. The photo above is a 3 frame panorama of the retention pond near me. Looks like a cute pond doesn’t it? We go sledding in that during the winter. Without the water of course! That is a pretty deep hole and trust me, you can really build up some speed blazing down there on a disk! I have never seen it that filled up.
Chicago Criterium
For our Sunday morning photo outing we went to Grant Park this morning to catch a little of the Chicago Criterium. I think I was the only one excited to see a race there, but soon my son and my uncle were really enjoying the event.
My son got all excited when he saw the hay bales on Michigan Ave. He thought for sure there would be a crash he could get photos of. I had to burst his bubble and tell him they were just safey bales and he more than likely wouldn’t see anything like that. While I don’t race, the the weather seemed very good for racing. I have a small gallery of the photos I took if you want to see some more.
It was a very fun morning. I wish we could have stayed there longer though, I would have really like to have seen more races. I will clear the day next time though, that’s for sure! If you have never seen one of these races, I would highly recommend you check one out.
Having never shot a bike race I did a little looking around to see what the normal type shots were. I liked the shots using a panning technique the most and tried my hand at that. I started out with some group shots of the racers coming around a small turn and then I tried my Sigma 50mm and the 18-70mm Nikon kit lens for the pan shots. I liked the way the 50mm shots looked but it was sort of hard to get any decent shots due to the closeness of the subjects. I could only get one rider in the frame so I switched to the kit lens and went a little wider. In the gallery I linked to you will see the results. I hope you like them!
