The Bookshelf
Well, I finally got around to putting together a page that has a list of books that I would recommend to anyone interested in photography and digital editing. These are all books that I have and have found very useful.
The list will eventually become larger but I am having trouble editing things here for some odd reason. I’m sort of new at using Wordpress so please bear with me!

Saturday on the Lake
Saturdays can be pretty boring around here. This is the day I usually do my shopping and catching up on laundry and other fun stuff around my place while Kieran goes about his Saturday routine of hanging out with his friends and having fun. This week he has been building an ice fort which is still under construction. I will show you that once he finishes it. He was a little mad at me for not letting him go out Sunday to work on it but it was a little too chilly. -7f most of the day.
We did however go out for a bit Saturday afternoon. Since last winter, I have wanted to take a few photos of the guys fishing on Wampum Lake. Never got around to it last year. We got around to it Saturday!
I brought my sb600’s along with a few stands to light things up a little. I was thinking of doing a few Strobist style shots. I was getting the usual “why do you always have to bring all that extra crap with you” look from Kieran as we made our way out onto the lake. He gives me that look a lot when we go out but he sure pays attention to what I am doing!
I talked to a handful of guys and everyone was very cool and willing to let me flash away while we talked about how the fishing was going. It is like a small community out there. Everyone either knows each other or at least recognizes each other. The first fisherman I talked to brought his 2 sons out with him and one of their friends. Robert (sitting on his chair fishing) caught a small bluegill and didn’t have a set of pliers to get the swallowed hook out. He just walked over to another shelter and borrowed one. One of his buddy’s would walk over every once in awhile to see how things were going and to see what all the flashing was about! Everyone yelled when a flag went up. It was a friendy environment to say the least.
Kieran was pretty intrigued by the whole thing. I think he was more excited than the guy catching the fish when the flag would pop up! He would scurry over to check things out with a big smile on his face.
I look forward to going back there one of these days. It was a lot of fun and there are a lot of good photo opportunities out there. I think I might make a series. The ice isn’t going anywhere for a while!
Ice Baby, Ice
What a fun day! Not…
The weathermen had been talking about this storm for a couple of days. Lots of snow on the north end and ice on the south end. We got both. Not much snow. Just enough to brighten things up a bit. We did get some pretty good ice though. Pretty to look at, horrible to drive in.

Whoo Hoo! I recieved a Noteworthy from Photo Friday!
I have been submitting photos to that site for about 5 years now and finally made it. I’m not really that big on bragging about myself but this really made my day. Every week there is a new theme posted and you link a photo that fits the theme. Then everyone votes for the best photos. Folks must have liked this one!
I posted a photo of Sammy. It was not a good photo to begin with and I didn’t include it in the gallery for Sammys owner. The lighting was off. It was dark and just not a good looking photo. I did however, like his pose. Off and on for a few days, I messed around with this one in Lightroom & Photoshop, trying a few different techniques to lighten things up and bring out more of the details. I ended up putting a few hours into this one. Considerably more than I usually do! I was just using this photo to do a little experimenting on and for once, things worked out!
